by Milliken Publishing

You can check availability or order on line from our secure server by following the blue links.
If you follow the link and get an error message that the title is no longer available, and the title is not a used or out of print book, it may mean we are currently out of stock or that we have temporarily put our listings on vacation because we can't ship for a few days. Even if a book is it's on it's way or has just arrived in the warehouse it won't show on the e-commerce site until I've had time to update and upload the changes.
You can always email me to see when the book is expected back in stock or nudge me to get it back in stock right away.

The American Colonies by Tim McNeese. Milliken, 2002. This book provides a detailed and richly illustrated overview of the trials of Europeans in the New World. From the earliest primitive encampments on the Atlantic seacoast to the settled societies of the later colonial period, this book vividly describes the disastrous first years, the strained reliance on native peoples, the horrors of the African slave trade, and deteriorating relations with England, which stand in marked contrast to the hope, strength, resilience, and determination with which colonialists carved a nation out of the North American wilderness. Challenging review questions encourage meaningful reflection and historical analysis. Maps, tests, answer key, and extensive bibliography included. For grades 7-12. Student pages may be reproduced for one copy each for the students of one teacher for a single course . 111 pages. BTH-4759. $10.76-D

The U.S. Constitution by Tim McNeese. Milliken, 2001. This book traces the complicated evolution of our nation’s most important document. From its roots in English political history through the Magna Carta and the writings of John Locke to early colonial treaties such as the Mayflower Compact and the Articles of Confederation, this volume vividly documents the challenges and difficulties in securing the "blessings of liberty." Challenging review questions encourage meaningful reflection and historical analysis. Tests, answer key, and bibliography included. A timeline that extends from 400 B.C. to 1992 is included at the beginning. Student pages may be reproduced for one copy each for the students of one teacher for a single course . 110 pages. BTH-4754. $10.76-D

The Revolutionary War by Tim McNeese. Milliken, 2003. This book provides a detailed overview of the American battle for independence and the forging of a nation. From the earliest skirmishes at Lexington and Concord to the decisive victory at Yorktown, to the writing of the Constitution and the struggles of early national America, this book tracks both the logistical and intellectual dimensions of the "revolution," which, as John Adams said, took place "in the hearts and minds of Americans . . . before a single drop of blood was shed . . ." As much as it vividly documents the particulars of battle, it is the dizzying aftermath of the war and the complexities of fulfilling the "idea" of America—what Adams called the "real revolution”—that form the impressive substance of this book. Also discussed are the social, cultural, and artistic advances of the post-Revolutionary period to include the women’s suffrage movement and the beginning of public education, with special emphasis given to the "American Renaissance" and the rise of a distinctly American literature in the work of writers such as Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Hawthorne, Melville, and Dickinson. Challenging review questions encourage meaningful reflection and historical analysis. Maps, tests, answer key, and extensive bibliography included. One copy of each student page may be reproduced for each student of one teacher for a single course. 106 pages. BTH-4755. $10.76-D

America's Civil War by Tim McNeese. Milliken, 2003. This book provides a detailed overview of the cultural and ideological landscape of post-colonial America that set the stage for war, and vividly describes the course of the conflict that took more American lives than any war in history and altered the course of the nation. Emphasis is placed on the fierce cultural and economic rivalry between the industrial North and the agricultural South and the pivotal rift concerning slavery that led to this irrepressible and bloody fight. The lives of common soldiers, the weapons and methods of warfare, the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, and the role of other significant political and military leaders are among the topics discussed as well as the abolitionist movement, the underground railroad, and dramatic figures such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, and John Brown. Challenging review questions encourage meaningful reflection and historical analysis. Maps, tests, answer key, and extensive bibliography included. 129 pages. One copy of each student page may be reproduced for each student of one teacher for a single course. BTH-4756. $10.76-D

The American Frontier by Tim McNeese. Milliken, 2002. This book provides a detailed and richly illustrated overview of the westward expansion of colonial and post-colonial America through diplomacy, war, wanderlust, and grit. The frontier is defined and demythologized as Hollywood's stereotypical portrayals are replaced with factual yet no less fascinating and lively depictions of pioneer life. Daniel Boone, the Louisiana Purchase, the explorations of Lewis and Clark, the subjugation of the Indians, the Mexican-American War, and the building of the transcontinental railroad are among the events and personalities vividly described. Challenging review questions encourage meaningful reflection and historical analysis. Maps, tests, answer key, and extensive bibliography included. For grades 7-12. Student pages may be reproduced for one copy each for the students of one teacher for a single course . 111 pages. BTH-4760. $10.76-D

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.
You can fax your purchase orders to 805-237-8639, but it's good to follow up with a phone call in a couple of days to make sure we got it, if you did not receive a delivery confirmation email. Please include an email address with your purchase order in case we have questions and so we can send your delivery confirmation number to you.  You can also attach a signed purchase order to an email.

We prefer you ask your questions about products and availability by e-mail (barbsbooks@sbcglobal.net), since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually have to call you back or email you anyway.  We do check our e-mail frequently throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or "Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
We receive a small commission from some links to third party sites with whom we have an affiliate relationship.
