The Wilderness is a Book: A Story of Young 49'ers on the Trail, by LaRee Caughey. Ward Ritchie Press, 1966. Hardcover, library discard, no dust jacket. Good condition. 110 pages. In 1849, the Plumacre family caught Gold Fever and decided to brave the dangers of the wilderness and seek their fortune in California. This light-hearted adventure story of their months on the journey across the western United States portrays their hardships, and near-tragedy authentically.
