This book features the science behind these massive tropical storms and how countries around the world cope with their devastating effects. It explains how hurricanes form, the stages of a hurricane, the work of the National Hurricane Center, and the effects of hurricanes. It discusses famous hurricanes, hurricane safety, and how to survive the storm.     Severe Storm and Blizzard Alert! by Lynn Peppas, 2004. Not all rain clouds lead to rainbows. Some form into ravaging thunderstorms, bringing pounding hail, wild winds, and bolts of lightning. Winter storms are equally threatening, bringing terrible wind chills and mountains of snow. This book looks at the severe side of stormsand blizzards. It discusses storms in mythology, what makes weather and causes these storms, clouds, lightning, how storms grow, famous storms, weather forecasting, weather balloons, Doppler radar, space images, storm safety, the aftermath of storms, and living through a storm.     Terrorism Alert! by Lynn Peppas and Sydney Newton. 2006. Terrorism is a frightening but all too real topic for young people. This sensitively-written new book examines the history of terrorism and sheds light on the groups that carry out these acts. Terrorism Alert! explains the measures taken by countries around the world to keep citizens safe from terrorist attacks and how they fight terrorism from its roots up.    Tornado Alert! by Wendy Scavuzzo. 2004. This book explains how tornadoes are formed and predicted. It describes the various paths a tornado might take, what to do if there is a tornado warning, the path of destruction a tornado can leave behind, and how the clean-up takes place in the aftermath.    Transportation Disaster Alert! by Niki Walker. 2006. This book discusses the many kinds of transportation disasters that can happen on land, sea, and air. Topics include the Bermuda Triangle, the causes of transportation disasters though equipment failure, human error and weather conditions, why ships float or sink, the Halifax Explosion, the dangers of submarine explosions, escape capsules for submarines, train collisions and derailments, the physics of flight, air traffic controllers, the causes of plane crashes, automobile pileups on highways, famous disasters such as the sinking of the Titanic, the Hindenburg fire, and the explosion of the Kursk.     Tsunami Alert! by Niki Walker. 2006.  This book explains and describes tsunamis,  their causes, and the aftermath and clean-up. Topics covered include wave science, the life of a tsunami, tsunami alerts, studying tsunamis, famous tsunamis, and staying safe during a tsunami. Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.
 You can fax your purchase orders to 805-237-8639, but it's good to follow up with a phone call in a couple of days to make sure we got it, if you did not receive a delivery confirmation email. Please include an email address with your purchase order in case we have questions and so we can send your delivery confirmation number to you.  You can also attach a signed purchase order to an email.

 We prefer you ask your questions about products and availability by e-mail (barbsbooks@sbcglobal.net), since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually have to call you back or email you anyway.  We do check our e-mail frequently throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or "Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam messages look like that.
