INTRODUCING OTHERS TO GOD
Evangelism, Outreach, and Missions

101 Ways to Reach Your Community by Steve Sjogren. Navpress, soft cover, 112 pages. This might also be titled "How to Share the Gospel without Preaching." Its focus is on servanthood -- a gift one can use to reach out to one's community with the love of God. You can use the suggestions in this book with a few friends, a church,  or a small group. The author suggests that you use it rather like a cook would use a cookbook. Find a project that looks right and do it. He tells you exactly how to get started, what to expect, and what to say. He also shares how some of the projects have worked in the life of his own church (Vineyard Community Church), which is probably in West Chester, Ohio, since the author lives there with his family.

This book is ideal for those who want to share Jesus but don't believe they are good at verbalizing the message. The basic idea is that you give something for free and be ready to answer questions when people ask why. You also give away a "connection" card to those you serve, in case you've not had a chance to talk to them. This card explains briefly why you've served the person you give it to: "...It's a simple way of saying God loves you...." (That comes from a connection card the author offers to let you copy, and he provides a free copy to download from his website. ) The front of the card has the explanation of why you've served, and the back has contact information should the person want to contact you or your church or group.

Here are some of the project ideas so you can get an idea of what to expect: soft drink giveaway; donut giveaway during morning traffic, grocery cart escort and return, drinks at biking trails, totally free car wash. These are some of the easiest. But there are almost a hundred other ideas. And the beauty of it is this: Any size group can participate in a time slot of a couple of hours, and the group can actually enjoy working together to reach out. So buy the book and see if you like it. If you are disappointed, the publisher has a money-back guarantee, which is explained on the copy write page. Nav-2201. $6.30-D

Mack and Leeann's Guide to Short-Term Missions by J. Mack and Leeann Stiles. InterVarsity Press, soft cover, 186 pages. More and more people today are participating in short-term mission trips -- visits to other countries where they can be involved in mission work on a temporary basis as they get a better understanding of what missionaries do as they help out. This book tells how to prepare for such a trip, offering field-tested advice no one should leave home without . (The authors have led a dozen two-month mission trips all over the globe, so they are well-qualified to give advice.)

Among other things, you will learn how to establish partnerships with sending churches, learn from your hosts in the countries you visit, become a culturally sensitive person, deal with culture shock, grow a servant spirit, face injustice with realism and compassion, talk about Jesus in a way that makes sense in a new culture, and deal with reentry culture shock when you get home.  IVP-22690. $10.80-D

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.

We prefer you ask your questions about products and availability by e-mail, since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually have to call you back or email you anyway.  We do check our e-mail frequently throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or "Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
