How to Teach Math Facts by Susan Greenwald. Teacher Created Resources, © 1999, reprinted 2004. For grades 1-4. Reproducible for classroom use. 144 pages. I'm putting this book first, out of my usual alphabetical order, because I don't want anyone to miss it. We have a lot of drill and practice books below, but this one covers all four operations. It has helpful teacher tips, and also tricks for students to use as they learn math facts. This program will work for a variety of children: learning disabled students, mildly retarded students, physically challenged students; preschoolers with appropriate readiness skills; upper level students who need remedial work, ADD students, and, of course, any child trying to master math facts for the first time. Instructions are given for integrating this program with your regular math curriculum.

Key components for success in this program include the useful tips for teaching facts, adult-directed lessons, repetition, progress through sequential steps, individualization, and one-on-one practice, at least three times a week. Several helpful reproducible charts and practice worksheets are included -- even some word problems. All answers to exercises are also included. BTH-622. $13.46-D

Edupress Best Value Drill Books: These reproducible books offer lots of skill-building pages. There is a bit of explanation and instruction at the top of each page and the rest of the page is filled with practice problems. 32 pages per book . Individual books cover basic operations, fractions, decimals, and percents. Each book  only $3.59-D See list of individual titles.

Edupress Math in a Flash drill cards and accessories: This motivating way for students to drill won the Dr. Toy award for 10 best children's products. The classroom tested, kid-selected flashcard size invites students to pick them up, play, and learn.  Sets of facts are color-coded so that peer comparisons are not so easily made as when sets are labeled with numbers or letters. Clean-up is also easy. Cards can be sorted by color, making them perfect for learning centers. Students are assigned a color to master, which they can keep organized on rings. They can track their progress on bookmark-size progress trackers, also color coordinated, and quickly study on a matching color coded notebook chart.  See list of individual titles.

Evan-Moor Practice Books: Evan-Moor publishes a Daily Math Practice Series, a Daily Word Problems Series, and a Math Practice at Home series. See them all by clicking here.

Garlic Press -- Straight Forward Series: This offers just the facts to be practiced on reproducible pages for only $3.59 for each operation.  Puzzle and Practice offers reproducible cut-out animal puzzles as part of the drill to make it more fun, and the instructions are in both English and Spanish, making them perfect for bilingual drill. These books are also only $3.59- each.

Garlic Press Two-Sided Self-Checking Math Jigsaw Puzzles: these are wonderful drills for those who need more hands-on activities. Besides the basic operations, they are also available for practice with money. Click here for details and order information.

Just-a-Minute Math: Build Computation Strength Through Timed Drills. Steck-Vaughn. These 200 timed practice tests will encourage and help elementary and middle grade students to master the basic math facts so necessary to proceed to more difficult mathematical concepts.  This resource is flexible and allows the teacher to choose the subject area, number of problems, and time frame to fit individual needs. The sections in Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division feature tests of 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 problems each. Choose between test lengths of 20, 30, or 40 problems in Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. There are progress charts so that students can track their improvement. There are fact tables for easy reference. And math games help keep students interested. There are certificates at the end to give to students when goals are met. Answers are at the back. 224 pages in all. This book is reproducible for classroom use. BTH-1029. $21.59-D

Math Minutes, from Creative Teaching Press. Each book in this series offers one hundred drills of ten problems each, known as  math minutes because each drill can be a timed test of one minute.  Each math minute presents a range of problem solving questions that integrate a variety of math skills. These are arranged in each book to build on each other, and progress in difficulty as the book goes on. These drills help students review material previously taught so they don't' forget what they have already learned as they go on to new learning. Each reproducible book is 112 pages, and answers are bound in.  Here are the titles and catalog information:

Math Warm-ups: Developing Fluency in Math, by Sheri Disbrow. Dandy Lion Publications. The reproducible  exercises in these books provide daily practice in various areas of math. Each page contains ten problems which review and reinforce concepts in number sense, math reasoning, computation, time, money, measurement, geometry, probability, graphing, fractions, and decimals.  Books were developed around  national, Ohio, California, and Texas content standards and objectives for each grade level. The introduction to each book explains  which standards are addressed in that book. The books are intended to supplement any basal text. Books gradually increase in difficulty as they review and offer extra practice in concepts already taught. Teachers, parents, and administrators can use these books to diagnose weak areas, evaluate progress, and help  prepare students for standardized tests. The books are motivating, easy to grade, help build critical thinking and problem solving skills, present some multi-step problems, provide practice with analogies, support any curriculum, address all objectives in each five-day period, and help prevent holes in learning. Each book has 70 practice pages. Answers are included.

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.

We prefer you ask your questions about products and availability by e-mail, since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually have to call you back or email you anyway.  We do check our e-mail frequently throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or "Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
