MULTI-CURRICULAR IDEAS FOR QUICK ACTIVITIES
Example: I'm writing this on March 19. On this day in 1932 hundreds of swallows returned to Mission San Juan Capistrano in California. The Word of the Day is "swallow." The Quote is 'We think that caged birds sing, when indeed they cry.' (John Webster). Students are to imagine they are ornithologists on a bird watching expedition in South America where they discover a new species of bird. They describe the bird and name it. The day's activity is to identify pictures of six common birds from a list of their names. All the days I looked at had interesting topics covering a wide range of interests and activities. Pages are reproducible for classroom use. TMR-3626. $26.99-D
For grades 2-6. $11.66-D
This book presents (in full color) a special event or historical
milestone for every day of the year. Interesting backgound on the event is followed by
three questions: a question to develop vocabulary, an open-ended question to promote
discussion, and a question or topic for further research Use one, two, or all three
questions with your class, depending on your students' abilities and the time you have. In
addition, a list of special observances is provided at the beginning of each month. Using
What Happened Today? will: increase awareness of historical events, provide relevant
topics for discussion or writing, help students make connections between the past and the
present focus, and attention on events happening all over the world. For Grades 1-6.

We're in the Pacific Time Zone We prefer you ask your questions about products
and availability by
e-mail, since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and
keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in
your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer
unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a
book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually
have to call you back or email you anyway. We do check our e-mail frequently
throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a
message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number
clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email
us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time
zone.
