CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE

Basic Christianity by John R. W. Stott. One of the world's best Bible teachers has explained in this book the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. The author served as chaplain to the Queen of England for 32 years until 1991, and since 1970 he has been traveling extensively overseas, especially in the Third World, to speak at conferences for pastors and students. I have heard him speak several time at the Urbana Missionary Confernce which is sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and he is a teacher I never get tired of hearing. This book is organized into four main parts: Christ's Person; Man's Need; Christ's Work; and Man's Response. This is the book we always give to those who want information about what Christians believe and why. 142 pages. Cat. #IV-46901. $5.39-D

Creation Evangelism for the New Millennium by Ken Ham. Master Books, trade paper. The author takes the position that one cannot fully understand the Gospel without interpreting the Book of Genesis literally. This book is his attempt to restore Biblical teaching to a church he sees falling away from its foundations in the Old Testament. Cat. #089051-2477 / $9.89-D

Knowing Christianity by J.I. Packer, author of Knowing God. Trade paper, InterVarsity Press, 1995. The same man who has shown many more about the character of God now turns to the great doctrines of the Christian Church -- the only  proper foundation for spiritual experience. He begins with the central doctrines of God, the Bible, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. From there he procedes to the main elements of the Christian life -- Christian growth, prayer, worship, fellowship with other believers, and our responsibilities as citizens. He concludes, appropriately, wiht a consideration of the afterlife, God's judgment, and our reign with the ascended Christ. J. I Packer has taught theology at Regent College in Vancovuver for many years and has written many other books.  191 pages, including Scripture index. Cat. #IV-2216X. $9.89-D
