Family Under the Bridge, by Carlstrom.
Armand, an old hobo who lived under a bridge in Paris, managed to get enough
odd jobs, and, with a bit of begging on the side, kept himself warm and fed.
He was rather attached to his carefree life. But then, on Christmas Eve day,
he came home to find a mother with three children in his space under the
bridge. At first he tried to get rid of them, and he tried to ignore their
troubles, but the children began to get through to his heart and he found
himself beginning to care about the family who shared his home. The children
had made it known that they missed having a real home of their own. Could he
do something to make their wish come true? BTH-2329. $5.36-D Please click on

Follow My Leader
by James B. Garfield. After Jimmy is blinded in an accident, he needs to
relearn all the things he used to know how to do, like getting dressed,
finding his way around the house, and even eating. A therapist teaches him to
learn Braille and use a cane. And then he gets Leader, a guide dog. It takes
effort to learn to work with Leader, but he tries very hard to learn to trust
him, and gradually gains the confidence he needs. BTH-2226. $4.46-D

Grain of Rice, by Pittman.
A peasant named Pong Lo asks the Emperor for the hand of his beautiful
daughter, thus enraging him. It was unheard of for a lowly farmer to marry a
princess. But the princess became very ill and Pong Lo is able to make a
concoction that cures her. The Emperor offers him anything (except the hand of
the princess), but he says if he can't have the princess, all he wants is a
grain of rice, doubled every day for 100 days.Clever Pong Lo knew that was
enough to provide the wealth and happiness he wanted so badly. Do the math.

Great Turkey Walk by Kathleen Karr.
When 15-year-old Simon, who can't seem to get past the third grade, is told by
his teacher Miss Rogers that it's time he dropped out of school and begin to
seek his fortune, he decides to herd one thousand turkeys from Missouri to
Denver. Miss Rogers funds him, and he sets out for his biggest adventure ever,
accompanied only by a loyal drover, his dog, four mules, and a wagonload of
shelled corn. This book full of adventure will make a great read-aloud. For
middle school and above. BTH-2332, $5.36-D / J / TA To enlarge image,

Mr.
Bear Squash-You-All-Flat by Morrell Gipson. Illustrated by Angela. I
remember this story from my own childhood, and now it's back in print. Mr.
Bear is very grumpy and mean, and when the moom is full, he wanders his
neighborhood and, after giving fair warning, squashes his neighbors' homes.
But one day, he gets his comuppance in the most humorous and delightful way,
and is forever cured of his passion for squashing houses. No young child
should miss this old classic. BTH-2335. $13.50-D

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday -
Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.
We prefer you ask your questions about products
and availability by
e-mail (barbsbooks@sbcglobal.net), since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and
keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in
your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer
unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a
book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually
have to call you back or email you anyway. We do check our e-mail frequently
throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a
message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number
clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email
us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time
zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or
"Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam
messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee
your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
We receive a small commission from some links to third party sites with whom we have an affiliate relationship.
