OUR FAVORITE LINKS
We've worked hard to put together a list of links that's a little
different from the link lists on other homeschool pages. Get more information on books and
authors, inspiration from other homeschoolers, and just have fun.

Teaching
and Teachers: Blogs, Articles, Etc
The Apple Orchard: A Place for Adults Who love Children's Books. This page reviews old children's books and series and offers up-to-date news on which old classics are coming back into print. They also have a list of old classics that are currently in print. If you find one you want, I can handle it as a special order if I don't already carry it. I do carry many of them, which may or may not be listed on my page yet. It never hurts to ask.
Arthur Ransome Page: Contains anything and everything for Ransome fans: his biography, a slide show of people and places important in his books, a discussion forum, and a complete bibliography of his books, himself, and anything related.
Mark Twain Quotes: Has a lot of information besides quotations that might be of interest to Mark Twain fans. There is biographical information and some interviews with Mark Twain are also preserved there. There are also a number of related articles. Before you visit, keep in mind that we have a lot of new and used Mark Twain books here at reasonable prices.
ABC Teach: Has over 5,000 free printable pages available on all school subjects.
CCS Online: Classical Education with a Twist: You might want to look into these online courses in history, theology, Bible, and government that grow out of a comprehensive Christian world view. These would be for high school and college level home school students.
English Companion: Where English Teachers Meet to Help Each Other
The Home School Curriculum Swap: We've visited a lot of home school pages, and they all offer useful information. But this page gives parent teachers a chance to compare notes with others on anything from curriculum to the prices of book rate postage. One of the most valuable features of this page is its classified ad section where you may advertise used books and curriculum or place a wanted ad, all for no charge. You handle your own ads, and deal directly by e-mail with those who answer them. I have sold used books within 15 minutes after placing some ads. And teachers, you may be able to find used books you need here, too.:
Jacqui Bennett Writers
Bureau
Jacqui offers help to those who want to be published authors but want their work critiqued
or need to know how and where to submit their work for publication. Her prices are
affordable.

To Homeschool or Not to Homeschool: That is the Question
Houston Chronicle Interactive Comics: Ever dreamed about having a comics page with only the ones you want to read? Well, now you can have it. Just go to this page and build it with all your favorites -- including the ones your paper may have already dropped. If you'd like to read more than the comics, you can get the other Houston Chronicle features such as weather, sports, columnists, news stories, etc. at the Houston Chronicle Interactive Home Page
SLO-North: This is my own personal page about the region where I live in San Luis Obispo County, California. I am especially interested in sharing my gardening experiences here and showing pictures of the various weeds that are common in this region with original pictures of them at different stages of their life cycles and also what I do with those that are edible.

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday -
Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.
You can fax your purchase orders to 805-237-8639, but it's good to follow up with a phone call in a couple of days to make sure we got it, if you did not receive a delivery confirmation email. Please include an email address with your purchase order in case we have questions and so we can send your delivery confirmation number to you. You can also attach a signed purchase order to an email.
We prefer you ask your questions about products
and availability by
e-mail (barbsbooks@sbcglobal.net), since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and
keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in
your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer
unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a
book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually
have to call you back or email you anyway. We do check our e-mail frequently
throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a
message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number
clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email
us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time
zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or
"Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam
messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee
your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
