Amazing Science Series from Crabtree
Publishing for ages 7-10. Books in this series introduce children to scientific
phenomena they observe in the world around them on a daily basis: Electricity,
Forces and Movement, Light, Materials, Plants, and Sound. The concepts are
explained and illustrated in exciting, large, full-color illustrations.
They are picture-book size and the print is large with lots of white space so
that young eyes won't be intimidated. Index and glossary are included to make it
easy to teach their use. There are also simple hands-on activities to get
children more involved with what they are reading.
Bridges!
Amazing Structures to Design, Build & Test by Carol A. Johmann and E.J.
Rieth. Kids ages 7-14 learn science principles as they study the different types of
bridges; make an arch, Roman-style; test the strength of triangles versus squares; play
bridge tug-of-war to feel push, pull, and balance in action; see how shallow arches
function in raging rivers; make a real outdoor hanging bridge; spin some cable;
build a weight-bearing truss-beam bridge; hang a soaring suspension bridge and much more.
Students will choose the best bridge design for different sites; make decisions about
cost, safety, materials, and the environment; build and innovate using available
materials; and test their constructions for function and load. They will use
bridge-building basics, and as they do will discover how science and creativity come
together in the creation of the weight-bearing wonders we know as bridges. Trade paper, 96
pages. $$9.86-D

Science Projects by Faith H. Brynie. For those who know they have to do
that science project but don't' know how or what to do. This book will guide you through
the necessary steps quite painlessly. You'll learn to ask good science questions and shape
them into a project that will produce interesting answers -- and your project will be more
fun because it will be original -- not something copied from a book. For middle and high
school students. 276 pages. BTH-410. $8.06-D

Safe and Simple Electrical Experiments, by
Rudolf F. Graf. This book contains 101 entertaining experiments and projects in the areas
of static electricity, magnetism, and current electricity and electromagnetism. Each
experiment begins with a listing of the safe and inexpensive materials needed and some
introductory remarks. Then there is a step-by-step set of detailed directions and
illustrations. This is followed by a discussion of some of the sometimes astonishing
results that might be expected. Youthful readers will learn where to get electricity, and
how to store and use it in creative ways. Though experiments in this book are safe enough
for children, adults who know little about electricity might also enjoy it. Over
150 illustrations. First published in 1964 under the title The Safe and
Simple Book of Electricity. 117 pages. BTH-4809. $7.16-D.

Potter. Bright Ring Publishing, 1993. For children 3-10. The activities in
this book will work both at home and in a classroom. They are designed to awaken
the imagination, challenge the mind, and delight the artist and scientist within
each child. The art experiences are also like science experiments, and the
science related to each project is explained in a box on the bottom of each
project page. A chart of contents indicates the area of science covered, the
season best suited for the project, an age suggestion, the art techniques used,
amount of preparation needed, difficulty level, and more. Topics covered are

have to call you back or email you anyway. We do check our e-mail frequently
throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a

When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or
