HISTORY SERIES

  • AMERICAN ALBUMS FROM THE COLLECTIONS OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, $6.95-D each. Cat. #S7. For ages 10-14. Using the Library's collections, this highly informative series profiles key periods in the social, political, military and cultural history of our country. They are illustrated with full-color and B&W photos, prints, and maps. We currently stock these volumes from SOURCEBOOKS ON COLONIAL AMERICA: THE ARTS AND SCIENCES; BATTLES IN A NEW LAND; DAILY LIFE; THE EXPLORERS AND SETTLERS; GOVERNING AND TEACHING; and THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR.

  • COLONIAL PEOPLE: This series features colorful illustrations and photographs of people in period dress living out their lives and working at their trades and tasks as they would have in the colonial period of America's history. The information and vivid color illustrations will appeal to those from age 5 to adult and can easily be used with grades 2-5 (and up) to bring a history curriculum to life. Reading level is about grade 3, but these would also be ideal for low level readers in upper grades who need good nonfiction content that does not talk down to them. These are paperback, 8.5 x 10.75 inches, 32 pages each, with glossary and index.

  • EARLY SETTLER LIFE SERIES by Bobbie Kalman. This series is beautifully illustrated with photographs and etchings of early settler life from the National Archives and early issues of contemporary newspapers and magazines. The author also took over 1000 pictures of historic villages, illustrating every aspect of early settler life. Reading level is grades 3-4. Interest level is grades 2-9, though many adults also find these fascinating. There are 100 large illustrations in each book, and an index and glossary. Books in the series vary from 64-96 pages. Cover is four-color, text is two-color. Books are 8.06-D each title.

  • HANDS-ON HERITAGE SERIES: These terrific activity books are packed with exciting crafts and projects to make the study of history and other cultures more real: art, cooking, games, and more. Other helps for the teacher include historical aids, organized material lists, and step-by-step instructions. There are activities for every elementary grade in this book, so it's great for teaching mixed ages together. 48 pages each, and

  • HISTORICAL ALBUMS, $6.25-D each, Cat. #S41, ages 9-14. These histories of the American states begin with Native American civilizations and sweep from European explorations , settlement and early statehood to the issues and events of today. We do have many of these others in stock now. Just ask.

  • HISTORICAL COMMUNITIES SERIES: This series of books by Bobbie Kalman provides a close-up look at life in several of our America's historic communities. Children will learn about such things as early kitchens, the gristmill, what people wore, their crafts, and how the settlers made their living. The beautiful photographs that illustrate the books in this series, many taken by the author in such places as Williamsburg, bring our early settlers to life. I have visited many of these restored communities, and believe me, these books are the next best thing to being there, observing , and talking to the docents. Books are available in paper for $7.16-D. Reading level is grade 3. Interest level is grade K-9. Each book is 32 pages long. These books are a must for any study of early American life.

  • HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE ? This series is highly visual and has books pertaining to ancient and medieval history and the American West. These have been really hot! $7.15-D each.

  • IF YOU WERE THERE series from Scholastic. This series helps elementary age children visualize what life would have been like for them if they had lived during a different period of American history. ************************************************************************************************

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.

We prefer you ask your questions about products and availability by e-mail, since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually have to call you back or email you anyway.  We do check our e-mail frequently throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or "Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
