using the proverb completes the page. There are full English translations of the
dialogues at the back of the book. 148 pages. BTH-1402. $6.26-D Sold out.

Sophie
Learns Spanish by Sue Finnie and Libby Mitchell. This
introduction to Spanish for elementary children takes them to Mexico with Sophie
and Pablo. They take part in a carnival, watch a soccer match, do errands around
the town, go to the beach, visit a ranch, and more. Much of the story is in
English, with Spanish words and phrases in bold type. Each two page spread has a
different colorful scene with conversations and objects labeled as appropriate
and a small fold-out phrasebook for the meanings of bold-faced words on that
scene. An accompanying CD-Rom for Mac or Windows 95 and 98 shows the identical
scenes that appear in the book so that children can hear the spoken Spanish. The

Spanish for Children,
by Catherine Bruzzone. This
is the only truly interactive children's book-tape set I've seen, except for Power Glide Designed for children 6-12, it is a solid beginning
language course. It's colorful 80-page book teaches children basic language functions. Two
60-minute audio tapes feature songs along with many activities that tell children what to
do in the workbook. There is also a tape that explains to parents how they can best help
their children with the course. Though I believe this is the best course available that is
more than "listen and repeat" for elementary children, some of you might object
to an illustration that shows the different parts of a house with a labeled haunted house,
complete with witch on broomstick. If you can live with that, it's an excellent course.

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday -
Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.
We prefer you ask your questions about products
and availability by
e-mail (barbsbooks@sbcglobal.net), since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and
keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in
your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer
unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a
book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually
have to call you back or email you anyway. We do check our e-mail frequently
throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a
message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number
clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email
us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time
zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or
"Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam
messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee
your mail will be opened fast.
