Daughter of the Dawn, by Elizabeth Shaffer. Trade paper. Using historical events and characters, the author has recaptured the Mayflower voyage and the trials of the first year in the Plymouth Colony. For junior high and older. List price, 9.95. On sale for 7.50-S

Felicity's Surprise: A Christmas Story, American Girls Collection. Hardcover, dust jacket has a couple of small tears and is not perfectly clean and bright. Reg. Price is 12.95. Sale price is 7.95-S.

In Too Deep (#8 of Jennie McGrady series) For readers 11 and up. Cover is bent in places. Was 4.99. Now only 3.50-S

Letters from Rifka, by Karen Hesse. Rifka and her family have fled from Russia for a new life in America to escape the brutal treatment the Jews are getting. But the path to freedom is full of obstacles. When it seems the family has triumphed over all their hardships, the doctors refuse to let Rifka board the ship to America with her family, and they must leave without her. For ages 8-12. My husband also recommends this book. Trade paper edition. List price is 3.99. On sale for 3.50-S

Little Pilgrim's Progress, by Helen L. Taylor, who has simplified the vocabulary and concepts for younger readers while keeping the story line intact. This story is about little Christian, not a man. But he has the same struggles as his older counterpart in the classic work by John Bunyan. List price is 7.99. On sale now for 6.99-S

Long Spikes, by Jim Arnosky. Hardcover nature story for all ages (grade 4+ reading level). A yearling buck and his twin sister see their mother killed by hungry coyotes. Follow their lives as they learn to survive on their own and cope not only with finding food and shelter, but also with predators, winter weather, and human hunters. A realistic, powerful woodland drama presented from the animal's point of view and illustrated with Arnosky's wonderful detailed line drawings. Was 12.95. Now only 8.95-S

Maizie, by Linda Oatman High. Hardcover, published by Holiday House. Although the adults in this family are not good role models (Pa drinks too much and Ma has deserted her family and run off with another man), 12-year-old Maizie tries to care for her younger sister and apply what little of the Bible she has been taught in the church she attends with her little sister. This book deals with some tough issues, including unanswered prayer, and should definitely be read aloud and discussed rather than just being given to a child. But in certain situations it could be just the book to open the door to an important discussion. Reading level is about third grade and up. Was 14.95. Now only 10.45-S.

Poppy Seeds, by Clyde Bulla. A chapter book in which a little boy who plants some poppy seeds softens an old man's heart. First two pages are not cut down to size and have a wrinkle. When you cut them, you'll hardly notice the defect. 3.99, 1.50

Seven Tales by H. C. Andersen. Translated from the Danish by Eva Le Gallienne. Pictures by Maurice Sendak. Front cover slightly bent at corners. Was 7.95. Now only 4.95-S.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Words by Selina hastings, illustrations by Juan Wijngaard. This is an almost square hardcover picture book for more mature readers than the primary crowd. The theme is the testing of Sir Gawain's purity and honesty in the face of temptation by a beautiful woman. There are many full-page color illustrations. Regular price is 16.00. Sale price is 12.00-S

Skylark, by Patricia MacLachlan, hardcover. This is the sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall. For ages 8-10. In gift-giving condition. Was 12.95. Now only 8.50-S.

************************************************************************************************

We're in the Pacific Time Zone
Our normal office hours when we answer the phone are 10: 30 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday.
We answer email and ship at other times, but normally take Sundays off.

We prefer you ask your questions about products and availability by e-mail, since that gives us more time to prepare a thoughtful answer and keeps us from playing phone tag. Please remember to put our email address in your address book if you have a spam filter or you won't ever get your answer unless you also leave a phone number. We cannot usually tell you immediately over the phone if a book is here. We have to walk two blocks to check the warehouse, so I usually have to call you back or email you anyway.  We do check our e-mail frequently throughout the day when we are at home. If we should be out, and you leave a message on our answering machine, we sometimes cannot hear the phone number clearly to return your call. Those are some reasons why we recommend you email us first. If you want us to call you, please leave your phone number and time zone.
When you do email us, please do not leave the subject blank or just say "Hi" or "Hello" as the subject. We delete those before opening because a lot of spam messages look like that.
We have supplied a subject line in the link provided above that will guarantee your mail will be opened fast.
Or call (800)925-8587 (not before 10 AM or after 10 PM Pacific Time)
